Monitoring manufacturing quality

Dashboarding and Report Automation

Context

Our client was a US-based manufacturing company that makes an industrial component used by other manufacturing companies, with annual revenue of around $100M. The management team wanted to leverage their data warehouse to build a suite of automated reports to track the performance of their manufacturing operations. One of the first areas targeted was manufacturing quality, aiming to lower warranty costs over time.

Objectives

The management team asked us to create an automated dashboard to support their quality improvement initiatives.

Project delivery

We collaborated with the Quality Manager to define the most relevant metrics to the team. We utilized the client's data warehouse, which was replicating data daily from its Netsuite ERP, including Return Goods Authorization, Purchase Orders, Work Orders, Inventory, and Fulfillment. We created custom SQL views to join all these data together for the dashboard, which was built in PowerBI.

Outcome

We published the dashboard to the client's internal PowerBI portal. The manufacturing team used it to monitor warranty cost trends and identify the department, part, customer, or supplier contributing most to the problem.
